Unconscious Processes

  • If your parents divorced when you were a child, how has this influenced the way you view authority?

  • If you have siblings who are all older than you, how has this affected your ambitions to become a Team Leader?

  • If you were an only child, what impact has this had on the role you take in team meetings?

  • If you had a strong relationship with your Grandfather growing up, has this drawn you towards working for a business with a certain type of senior leadership?

You, and every single person you work with, used to be a child. We all had different experiences growing up:

Our family setup

Our hobbies and interests

Our teachers

Our friends

Our first love

…and everything else

No-one’s experience was ‘better’ or ‘worse’ than others, and they were all unique.

Every experience we had growing up, combined with our own genetics, helped create the blueprint for our lives today. How you interact with others at work, what you chose to do in your career, whether you like working alone or in a team, how motivated you are to earn money - everything is influenced somehow by our past.

The problem is that SO MUCH of our decision-making is UNCONSCIOUS. For example:

We don’t know why we get on with some people more than others.

We don’t know why certain things make us angry, or make us laugh.

We don’t know why we become so anxious about specific types of meeting or call.

We don’t recognise the early signs of Burnout.

This is where Counselling can help. There are a lot of misconceptions and stigmas about Counselling. In particular, if you have never been through it before then you are bound to be wary of it.

As a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor, I help people who are trying to do the best they can in their pressurised job, alongside challenges they have at home. I can help you understand more about yourself, which will help you make more deliberate, conscious decisions in your career and home life.

The counselling process usually needs to take a few sessions (and can be as open-ended as you would like), and the ‘goal’ is to help you make links between your past and your present. Imagine the iceberg in this picture. The conscious part is everything you know about yourself. Counselling helps you raise the iceberg up, seeing more of the UNCONSCIOUS and uncovering more about yourself.

If you can get to the root of the problems you are encountering in your life right now, THEN you can move forward and take more ownership. It can be incredibly empowering.

If you would like to find out more, please get in touch for a completely private, free initial conversation, where you can ask questions and learn more about how Purpose sessions can hope you.

Would you regret it if you don’t…..?
