A brief introduction

My name is Steve Twinley. Thank you for visiting.

As well as being a qualified and highly experienced counsellor, I have over 17 years’ experience in the fast-paced, sales-focused world of recruitment. It was varied and rewarding, but also very stressful - and the main thing I loved doing was helping my teams to improve their performance, develop their skills and become more resilient.

I worked my way up from graduate trainee to Managing Director of a life science recruitment business, helping grow an internationally-recognised brand and leading diverse teams. I worked LONG hours, whilst also getting married, starting a family, moving house and dealing with all manner of things that life threw at me outside of work.

In other words, I get it.

Your story

Every person’s background is different, but I imagine you have been led to this site because you are feeling overwhelmed. You have a stressful job, but don’t necessarily want to talk about it at home (and it’s hard to switch off when you get home too). You may also have a range of things going on in your personal life which you are finding it hard to switch off when you get into work.

You may have certain friends, colleagues and family members who can help you. But, believe me, there is SO much value in having a mentor who is completely separate from those people. Someone you can talk to completely privately and confidentially, who has no ‘agenda’ other than to be a supportive, attentive listener and help you solve problems that are unique to you.

Qualifications

Alongside 17+ years’ experience in recruitment (15 in leadership roles), I have a first-class degree in Psychology from Oxford University, a BACP-accredited diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (involving 4 years of study and client sessions at Chichester Counselling Service), certificates in Solution-Focused and Time-Limited Therapy, and experience of volunteering as a Samaritan. I have led teams of high-performing sales and non-sales staff, developed personalised training programmes, hosted a successful podcast series and helped countless people to develop a career path that inspires and motivates them. I also work in partnership with DWP (Department of Work and Pensions), providing in-person tutoring to groups of people who have been out of work for a while and are trying to rediscover their skills and rebuild their confidence.
